2024 Caribbean Cruise - October 14, 2024 to October 24, 2024

Cruise Log

This is our 31st cruise, a substitute for a different cancelled cruise this fall. We have taken several cruises to the Caribbean over the years; it was hard to find one with stops at different places, which this one has. My thanks to Patty for arranging this cruise and for picking the best cabin on the ship for us. I have found it helpful for me to record interesting things that we did, or things about the cruise experience, as soon as I could after they happened. So, this will be my log of the trip, with notes about what we did and what was going on around the ship.

You can view the itinerary and movie for this cruise by clicking here. As always, the movie will not be ready until several weeks after we return.

Thursday - September 12
With just 30 days to go, I finally finished the itinerary page today. It now includes all the normal stuff and the descriptions for the shore excursions that we have selected.

Wednesday - October 9
What luck. With less than a week to go, we get hit with hurricane Milton. Monday and Tuesday this week were filled with hurricane preparations - shopping, installing boards on the windows, checking out the generator, charging all devices. This day started cloudy and rainy and went downhill from there. Before the day was done there were winds reported in St. Petersburg over 100 MPH, and I recorded over 14 inches of rain on my gauge. The power went out around 7 pm so we were in the dark all night. The good news is that there is nothing that prevents us from cruising in a few days. We have just lost a bunch of preparation time. By-the-way a portion of today was used to secure from storm condition.

The Movie
Obviously, since we have not cruised yet, the movie is not finished. You can watch the movie from our last cruise on the itinerary page by clicking here. I hope you enjoy it.

Map of Actual GPS Data Points
I am planning to take a GPS Tracker on this trip to record the actual position points that we pass over. If all works out, I will have a display of the cruise path when we return. As a place holder, I include the map from our last cruise below.

The display below shows the tracks of these position points on a map which can be manipulated. You can zoom in and out with your mouse wheel and you can move the map around by clicking and holding as you move your mouse. To see the map in a full screen window, click the four cornered shape in the upper right. I suggest that you do open the map in full screen mode, where you can turn on or off the different segments by clicking the check marks in the segment list on the left. To see the trip toward the north, turn off all segments after 2023-10-10. To see the trip south, turn off the northbound segments, and turn on the southbound segments. For the trip north, the tracks are blue, for southbound, they are red. And don't forget you can zoom in to see more detail.

Thanks for having a look at the log.
